Dr. Cottle is a Clinical Psychologist with a Specialization in Forensic Psychology. She has provided forensic consultation services to legal professionals and law enforcement agencies throughout North Carolina. She has worked in state and federal prisons, in university clinics, state hospitals, and has maintained a private practice for 20 years. She is frequently called upon to serve as an expert witness in district, superior and federal cases as well as in civil and university matters.
Areas of Specialization:
Dr. Cottle has been an invited to speak with local universities, graduate schools, law schools, and government and legislative committees on topics related to juvenile delinquency and forensic psychological evaluation procedures. She has also been directly involved in collaborating with leaders in North Carolina on juvenile justice matters, including: juvenile “transfer” standards and procedures, defining the age of juvenile jurisdiction (“Raise the Age” and “Raise the Floor”), capacity to proceed statutes for juveniles in North Carolina.
Within organizations and businesses, Dr. Cottle’s interests relate to the use of psychology and neuroscience in designing and implementing change management strategies, specifically as they relate to improving workers and leaders’ capacities for perspective taking and ethical decision making.
Education:
B.S. in Mathematics and Psychology, Campbell University
Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Drexel University in Philadelphia
Dr. Cottle anticipates completing an M.B.A. with specializations in Human Resource Management and Innovation Management from Meredith College in May of 2024.
Volunteer Activities
Dr. Cottle currently serves on the North Carolina Prisoner Legal Services Board (NCPLS). She was nominated to serve on the Raleigh Police Advisory Board (RPAB) by the Mayor in May of 2021 and was approved by City Council in June of 2021.
Dr. Cottle has consulted with numerous universities, agencies and legislators, including the Juvenile Jurisdiction Advisory Committee (JJAC), throughout her career.
